Obidient Movement Members Join ADC in Edo, Bolstering Opposition Ahead of 2027 Elections
Members of the Obidient Movement in Edo State officially defected to the African Democratic Congress (ADC) on Monday in a significant political development ahead of the 2027 general elections. The event in Benin City saw a mass influx of youths and activists into the ADC, reflecting growing momentum for opposition collaboration in Nigeriaâs evolving political landscape.
Receiving the defectors, Chief John OdigieâOyegun, National Leader of the ADC and former APC national chairman, hailed the move as a sign that Nigerians are ready to confront current national challenges and pursue leadership change. OdigieâOyegun described the caliber of new members as evidence that âa new Nigeria is truly possible,â emphasizing the importance of youth engagement in nationâbuilding.
Edo State Coordinator of the Obidient Movement, Asemota Idiogbe, said the ADC provides the most viable platform to challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) both in the state and nationally. He expressed confidence that the groupâs grassroots support will strengthen the party structures and mobilize voters for future elections, with expectations that Peter Obi could emerge as the partyâs presidential candidate.
The ADCâs state chairman, Kenneth Odion, and the state woman leader, Faith Ebhogabhe, welcomed the inflow of members, underscoring the partyâs strategic positioning and readiness for electoral contests. The collaboration is widely seen as boosting the ADCâs credibility and capacity to challenge entrenched political interests in Edo and beyond.
