CAN Raises Alarm Over Initial Police Denial of Worshippers’ Abduction

The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has described as troubling the initial denial by the police over the reported abduction of worshippers, warning that such responses undermine public trust and delay urgent rescue efforts. CAN urged security agencies to prioritize swift verification, transparent communication, and coordinated action whenever abduction reports emerge. The association emphasized that early acknowledgment of incidents enables faster deployment of resources and increases the chances of saving victims. CAN also called on the federal and state governments to strengthen intelligence gathering, improve community policing, and ensure officers are properly trained to handle crisis communication. It stressed that victims’ families deserve timely, accurate information and reassurance during emergencies.
