Erdogan: Turkiye Targets $5bn Trade With Nigeria, Pledges Support in Fight Against Terrorism
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has announced Turkiyeâs ambition to grow bilateral trade with Nigeria to $5 billion annually, describing the West African nation as a strategic partner in Africa. Speaking during high-level diplomatic engagements, Erdogan said Turkiye is ready to deepen cooperation in key sectors including energy, defense, agriculture, construction, and technology.
He also pledged Turkiyeâs support to Nigeria in combating terrorism and insecurity, stressing the importance of intelligence sharing, military training, and defense equipment collaboration. According to Erdogan, stronger security cooperation will help stabilize the region and create a safer environment for economic growth.
Nigerian officials welcomed the proposal, noting that expanded trade ties would boost investments, create jobs, and strengthen people-to-people relations. Both countries reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening diplomatic relations and implementing existing agreements to accelerate economic development and regional security.
