NAF Reactivates Super Puma Helicopter, Boosts Air Power Operations
The Chief of Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Sunday Aneke, has reaffirmed the Nigerian Air Force’s (NAF) commitment to sustaining decisive air power in the defence of Nigeria’s territorial integrity and internal security.
Air Marshal Aneke made the declaration during the official unveiling of a reactivated Super Puma helicopter, designated NAF 565, at the 205 Rotary Wing unit in Ikeja, Lagos, on Wednesday.
According to a statement issued by the Director of Public Relations and Information, Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame, the ceremony underscored the Air Force’s renewed operational strength and institutional focus on enhancing mission readiness across various theatres of operation.
Speaking at the event, the CAS stressed that the return of the Super Puma helicopter to service marks a significant step in strengthening the Air Force’s rotary-wing capabilities. He noted that the platform would play a critical role in supporting maritime security operations in Lagos and surrounding coastal areas, where air surveillance and rapid response are essential.
Aneke also highlighted that beyond maritime duties, the helicopter would reinforce ongoing counterinsurgency operations in the North-East as well as anti-banditry missions in other troubled regions of the country. He described the reactivation as part of a broader strategy to ensure sustained air support for ground forces and other security agencies.
The development reflects the NAF’s continued efforts to improve fleet serviceability, expand operational reach, and maintain a high level of preparedness in addressing Nigeria’s evolving security challenges.
