NSCDC Arrests Two Islamic Clerics Over Alleged Brutalisation Of Minors In Ondo
OWO, ONDO STATE â Two Islamic clerics in Owo, Ondo State, have been arrested by the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) over the alleged brutalisation of two minors entrusted to them for Islamic education.
The suspects, identified as Adebodun Muideen (30) of Al-balaagul-mubeen Arabic and Islamic Centre and Oladejo Musiliu (35) of Abdullah Arabic and Islamic Centre, were apprehended following a formal complaint lodged by a child-rights advocacy organisation, Kids and Teens Resource Centre.
Confirming the development in a statement on Thursday, the State Public Relations Officer of the NSCDC, Daniel Aidamenbor, speaking on behalf of the State Commandant, Oluyemi Ibiloye, said the case was reported on Wednesday, January 28, 2026.
According to the NSCDC, the situation came to light after a class teacher of the victims observed multiple injuries on the childrenâs bodies. Alarmed by the severity of the injuries, the teacher alerted the advocacy group, which subsequently escalated the matter to security authorities.
The corps said preliminary findings suggest the minors were subjected to severe physical punishment while under the care of the clerics for religious studies.
The NSCDC assured the public that a thorough investigation is underway and that anyone found guilty will face the full weight of the law. The agency also reiterated its commitment to the protection of childrenâs rights and warned against all forms of abuse in educational or religious institutions.
Child protection advocates have continued to stress the need for stronger monitoring of informal learning centres and urged parents and guardians to promptly report any signs of abuse.
