Protests Erupt Nationwide as Nigerians Demand Real-Time Election Results

Protests broke out across major Nigerian cities on Monday as citizens took to the streets demanding real-time transmission and publication of election results. Demonstrators accused electoral authorities of secrecy, delays, and alleged manipulation, insisting that transparent, live result updates are essential to restore trust in the democratic process.

From Lagos to Abuja and Port Harcourt, protesters carried placards calling for accountability, chanting slogans in support of electoral reforms and credible polls. Civil society groups backing the protests argued that real-time results would curb rigging, reduce post-election violence, and reflect the true will of voters.

Security agencies were deployed to protest hotspots, urging calm while monitoring the largely peaceful demonstrations. The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) acknowledged public concerns and reiterated its commitment to improving transparency through technology, though it warned against actions that could disrupt public order.

As tensions remain high, political analysts say the protests highlight growing public frustration and renewed pressure on authorities to strengthen electoral integrity ahead of future polls.
