At NEC Conference, Tinubu Wants Action, Promises Stronger Economy
Abuja, Nigeria â President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has called for decisive action to transform Nigeriaâs economy and improve citizensâ daily lives following the close of the two-day National Economic Council (NEC) Conference. Addressing delegates through Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Tinubu reiterated that the governmentâs Renewed Hope Agenda must yield real and visible benefits for Nigerians, not merely policy talk.
Tinubu emphasised that reform is a process, not an event, requiring courage, patience and consistency. He urged federal and state governments to translate agreed resolutions into jobs created, improved infrastructure, better healthcare and expanded opportunities across all communities.
The NEC conference, themed âDelivering Inclusive Growth and Sustainable National Development: The Renewed Hope National Development Plan,â produced a wide-ranging communique calling for expanded anti-oil theft initiatives, stronger federal-state collaboration, private-sector partnerships, and accelerated investment in human capital.
Participants urged all states to enact harmonised tax laws to reduce multiple taxation and enhance revenue mobilisation. They also stressed the importance of increased spending on education, health, and youth employment to improve human capital outcomes.
Highlighting security as an economic priority, the NEC recommended non-kinetic approaches to complement military operations, noting that unemployment and poverty are key drivers of insecurity.
Governors such as Babajide Sanwo-Olu and Dapo Abiodun praised the administrationâs macroeconomic reforms, citing greater stability in the foreign exchange market and boosted investor confidence, while emphasising that policy execution at the subnational level remains crucial.
Tinubu reaffirmed his commitment to building a more resilient economy, a more inclusive society, and a stronger federation, urging disciplined execution of policies and deeper collaboration across all tiers of government.
