NNPP Expresses Shock Over Alleged US Proposed Visa Ban, Asset Seizure Against Kwankwaso, Others
The New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) has reacted with strong dismay to reports suggesting that the United States government is considering imposing a visa ban and possible asset seizure on its national leader, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, and other unnamed associates.
In a statement issued on Wednesday by the partyâs National Publicity Secretary, the NNPP described the reports as âdisturbing, speculative, and lacking official confirmation.â The party insisted that neither Kwankwaso nor its leadership has been formally notified of any sanction or investigation by US authorities.
According to the NNPP, the former Kano State governor and 2023 presidential candidate has maintained a record of public service built on transparency and accountability. The party argued that any move to impose restrictions without due process would undermine diplomatic norms and international engagement principles.
The statement called on the US government to clarify its position and avoid actions that could strain bilateral relations between Nigeria and the United States. It also urged supporters to remain calm, stressing that the development may be politically motivated or based on misinformation.
Political observers say the reports, if confirmed, could have implications for Nigeriaâs political landscape ahead of the 2027 general elections. However, there has been no official communication from the US Embassy in Abuja regarding the alleged measures.
Kwankwaso, a prominent northern political figure and leader of the Kwankwasiyya movement, has yet to personally respond to the claims. Close associates dismissed the reports as ârumours aimed at distracting the party.â
As of press time, efforts to obtain confirmation from US authorities were ongoing.
