2027: Four Ministers to Quit President Tinubu’s Cabinet Ahead of Elections

Abuja, Nigeria — At least four serving ministers in the cabinet of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu are reportedly preparing to resign from their federal appointments as they position themselves for elective political offices ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Political sources told Saturday PUNCH that the ministers are quietly planning exits to comply with electoral laws that require political appointees to step down before participating in party primaries.

Among those being mentioned are the Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, the Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Muhammad Pate, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Tuggar, and the Minister of State for Labour, Nkeiruka Onyejeocha.

The moves are widely viewed as strategic calculations for state-level governorship contests and legislative ambitions in their respective home states — particularly where governors are completing constitutionally permitted two terms in 2027.

Analysts say the resignations could trigger a cabinet reshuffle as the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) seeks to maintain momentum and unity ahead of intense political battles next year.
