First Lady, Akpabio, Seadogs, UBA, Other Leaders Mark International Women’s Day

Nigeria joined the rest of the world in celebrating International Women’s Day, with prominent leaders and organizations highlighting the importance of empowering women and promoting gender equality across the country.

Nigeria’s First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu, in her message to commemorate the day, praised Nigerian women for their resilience, strength, and contributions to national development. She called for increased support for women in education, leadership, and entrepreneurship, stressing that empowering women is key to national progress.

Also speaking, the President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, applauded Nigerian women for their roles in governance, business, and community development. He reiterated the National Assembly’s commitment to policies and legislation that will protect women’s rights and ensure greater inclusion of women in political leadership.

The humanitarian fraternity National Association of Seadogs (also known as Pyrates Confraternity) organized advocacy programs and awareness campaigns to promote gender equality and address issues affecting women and girls. The group emphasized the need to end gender-based violence and ensure equal opportunities for women in society.

Similarly, **United Bank for Africa> (UBA) celebrated female employees and entrepreneurs through special events, mentorship initiatives, and discussions focused on women’s empowerment in business and finance. The bank reaffirmed its commitment to supporting women through access to funding, leadership training, and business development programs.

Other political leaders, civil society groups, and corporate organizations across Nigeria also used the occasion to recognize the achievements of women while calling for stronger action against discrimination, inequality, and violence against women.

This year’s celebration of International Women’s Day once again highlighted the critical role women play in shaping Nigeria’s future, with stakeholders urging continued collaboration to create a more inclusive and equitable society.
