Turaki: PDP Leaders on Both Sides Have Broken the Ice, Exploring Pathways to Peace

A former presidential aspirant and prominent figure in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Tanimu Turaki, has revealed that leaders of the party’s opposing factions have begun meaningful dialogue aimed at resolving lingering internal disputes. According to Turaki, recent engagements between key stakeholders signal a willingness to set aside differences and rebuild unity within the party.

He noted that the long-standing divisions—stemming from leadership tussles, zoning disagreements, and post-election grievances—have weakened the PDP’s ability to function as a cohesive opposition. However, ongoing consultations among governors, former officeholders, and party elders are now focused on reconciliation and charting a common path forward.

Turaki emphasized that both camps have “broken the ice,” creating a more open and less hostile environment for negotiations. He added that informal meetings and backchannel communications are gradually restoring trust, with proposals being discussed on power-sharing arrangements, internal reforms, and respect for party structures.

Political analysts believe that a united PDP could significantly reshape Nigeria’s political landscape ahead of future elections. Turaki urged party members to prioritize collective interest over personal ambition, stressing that unity is essential for regaining public confidence and mounting a credible challenge to the ruling party.

While acknowledging that challenges remain, he expressed optimism that sustained dialogue and compromise would ultimately lead to lasting peace and a stronger, more disciplined PDP.
