2027: All 6 Geopolitical Zones Rally Behind Tinubu as APC Holds Congresses

Abuja, Nigeria — In a show of unprecedented political unity within the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the 2027 Nigerian general election, leaders and stakeholders from all six geopolitical zones have rallied behind President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as the party holds its zonal congresses across the country.

At the heart of the political mobilization, the North Central zone, led by Secretary to the Government of the Federation Senator George Akume, formally adopted Tinubu as the party’s sole presidential candidate at a zonal gathering in Lafia. This move signals a strategic consolidation of support aimed at boosting the party’s electoral machinery for the upcoming election.

In the South‑South, Senate President Godswill Akpabio rallied party stakeholders to deliver what he described as the “highest votes in the country” for Tinubu’s re‑election bid. His call came alongside reports that APC zonal executives were also elected in key regions, including the South‑West, South‑East, and North‑West, further tightening party cohesion.

Party operatives in state chapters reaffirmed their commitment to bloc voting, with delegates in the South‑West re‑electing leadership and pledging mass mobilization. Across the zones, resolutions emphasized unity, grassroots engagement, and voter turnout strategies to counter growing opposition alliances.

While the APC’s internal cohesion appears strong, critics from opposition parties have accused the ruling party of prematurely engaging in campaign‑style endorsements in violation of electoral timelines. The PDP, for instance, claims the APC is “shopping endorsements” to bolster Tinubu’s bid ahead of schedule.

As party structures consolidate and reflect a united front, analysts suggest this broad zonal backing could be pivotal in shaping political narratives and voter alignments well ahead of the January 2027 polls.
