Tinubu Orders Deployment of 5,000 AI Cameras to Tackle Plateau Insecurity
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has directed the immediate deployment of over 5,000 AI-enabled digital cameras across Plateau State as part of a new strategy to combat rising insecurity in the region.
The directive came during his recent visit to the state following a wave of deadly attacks. According to reports, the advanced surveillance system will support security agencies in identifying and tracking criminal elements in real time, improving rapid response and intelligence gathering.
Tinubu emphasized that the camera network would be integrated with modern technology capable of detecting suspicious movements and aiding law enforcement in preventing further violence. He noted that the initiative is part of a broader federal government effort to strengthen security infrastructure nationwide.
âWe are going to immediately install a network of cameras that will help law enforcement agencies identify troublemakers instantly,â the President stated.
The move comes amid heightened concerns over recurring attacks in Plateau, where communities have suffered casualties and displacement in recent months. Security experts believe that the deployment of AI-powered surveillance could significantly enhance monitoring and deterrence, especially in vulnerable areas.
In addition to the camera rollout, the federal government is also increasing the presence of security personnel and deploying specialized units to restore peace and stability in the state.
