Nigerian Army Rescues 31 Hostages After Easter Church Attack in Kaduna

Nigeria’s military has successfully rescued 31 civilians abducted during a brutal attack on a church in Ariko village, Kachia Local Government Area of Kaduna State on Easter Sunday. The incident unfolded when armed assailants stormed worshippers during an Easter service, abducting multiple congregants.

The Nigerian Army responded swiftly to distress reports, mobilising troops who tracked and engaged the attackers. A military statement confirmed that the abducted civilians were freed after troops pursued the gunmen and forced them to abandon the hostages during the operation.

Security sources said at least five victims were found dead at the scene, with other reports suggesting up to seven fatalities from the attack. The chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) in Kaduna State, Caleb Maaji, noted that two separate churches in Ariko were targeted in the assault, underscoring the severity of the incident.

Authorities have intensified security operations in the area to track down the attackers and prevent further violence. Investigations are ongoing as troops work with local communities to bolster protection and gather intelligence.
