2027 Election: Tinubu, APC Bigwigs Pick Forms as GAC Backs Hamzat
The political atmosphere ahead of Nigeriaâs 2027 general elections gathered momentum on Tuesday as key figures in the ruling All Progressives Congress officially obtained nomination and expression of interest forms for various elective positions across the country.
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu formally kicked off his re-election bid after APC chieftain and lawmaker James Faleke collected the partyâs âŠ100 million presidential nomination form on his behalf in Abuja. Faleke said the ruling party remained confident despite emerging opposition coalitions, insisting the APC was strategically prepared for victory in 2027.
The APC nomination exercise also witnessed several governorship aspirants across different states obtaining forms, including Solomon Adeola in Ogun State, Shehu Buba in Bauchi, and Mohammed Adamu in Nasarawa. The development signals the beginning of intense political alignments and succession battles within the party ahead of the primaries.
In Lagos, the influential Governance Advisory Council endorsed Deputy Governor Obafemi Hamzat as the APC consensus candidate for the 2027 governorship election. The endorsement was announced during a meeting at Lagos House, Marina, where GAC leaders reportedly also paid for Hamzatâs nomination form.
According to the timetable released by the Independent National Electoral Commission, presidential and National Assembly elections are scheduled for January 16, 2027, while governorship and state assembly elections will hold on February 6, 2027. Party primaries are expected to run between April and May 2026.
