Plateau Attacks: Tinubu Approves ₦2bn Relief for Angwa Rukuban Victims

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved a ₦2 billion emergency relief package for victims of the recent violent attacks in Angwa Rukuban community, Plateau State, as part of renewed federal efforts to address insecurity and humanitarian distress in the region.

According to a statement from the Presidency, the intervention is aimed at providing immediate succor to affected families, supporting the reconstruction of destroyed homes, and restoring basic livelihoods disrupted by the attacks. The President described the violence as “tragic and unacceptable,” reaffirming his administration’s commitment to ensuring peace and stability across all troubled communities in Nigeria.

The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has been directed to coordinate the distribution of relief materials, including food supplies, medical support, temporary shelters, and financial assistance for displaced persons. Security agencies have also been tasked with strengthening surveillance and intelligence operations in Plateau State to prevent further escalation.

Governor Caleb Mutfwang welcomed the federal intervention, describing it as timely and critical for rebuilding trust and confidence among affected residents. He also called for sustained military presence and long-term peacebuilding strategies in the state.

Community leaders in Angwa Rukuban expressed gratitude for the federal government’s response but urged that beyond relief, justice must be served for victims of the attacks and perpetrators brought to account.

The Plateau crisis has continued to draw national concern, with repeated calls for a comprehensive approach combining security reform, dialogue, and socio-economic development to address underlying tensions.
