Businessman Urges Senate to Probe FCT Senator Over Alleged N68m Controversial Transaction

A businessman based in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) has called on the Nigerian Senate to launch a full investigation into an alleged controversial N68 million transaction involving a serving senator representing the FCT.

The businessman, whose identity was disclosed during a media briefing in Abuja, alleged that the transaction involved questionable financial dealings linked to contracts and constituency-related projects. He claimed that the funds were transferred under unclear circumstances and demanded transparency and accountability from the lawmaker involved.

According to him, the issue has raised serious concerns among residents and stakeholders in the FCT, especially at a time when Nigerians are demanding greater accountability from public office holders. He urged anti-corruption agencies and relevant Senate committees to immediately examine the transaction and make their findings public.

The businessman further stated that public confidence in democratic institutions could be damaged if allegations involving elected officials are ignored. He insisted that the Senate must demonstrate fairness and transparency by carrying out an independent probe into the matter.

Reacting to the allegations, supporters of the senator dismissed the claims as politically motivated and aimed at tarnishing the image of the lawmaker ahead of future political activities. They maintained that the senator has acted within the law and has no involvement in any illegal financial transaction.

Political observers say the development could intensify political tension within the FCT, as citizens continue to demand accountability and proper management of public funds. Many residents have also called for a transparent investigation to establish the truth behind the allegations.

As of the time of filing this report, the Senate leadership and relevant anti-graft agencies had not issued any official statement regarding the controversy.
