NDC Convention: Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso Backs Zoning of Presidential Ticket to South

Former Kano State Governor and national political figure, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso has expressed support for the zoning of the presidential ticket of the National Democratic Coalition (NDC) to the southern region ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Kwankwaso made his position known during consultations with party stakeholders and delegates at the ongoing NDC convention, stressing that equity, fairness, and national unity should guide the party’s decision in selecting its presidential candidate.

According to him, zoning the ticket to the South would strengthen national cohesion and give every region a sense of belonging in the country’s democratic process. He noted that power rotation remains an important political arrangement in Nigeria’s multi-ethnic society and should be respected by political parties seeking stability and inclusiveness.

The former presidential candidate also urged party members to remain united and avoid actions capable of creating division within the coalition. He emphasized that the convention should focus on presenting a strong platform capable of addressing Nigeria’s economic and security challenges.

Political observers believe Kwankwaso’s endorsement of southern zoning may influence discussions within the coalition as political alignments ahead of the 2027 elections continue to gather momentum across the country.

Delegates at the convention are expected to deliberate on party reforms, leadership structure, and strategies for strengthening the coalition before the next election cycle.
