Peter Obi Predicts Credible 2027 Elections, Calls for Production-Driven Economy
Former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has expressed confidence that Nigeria will witness free, fair, and credible elections in 2027, despite growing concerns over the nationâs political climate.
Obi made the statement during the national convention of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, where he addressed issues surrounding governance, poverty, unemployment, and economic reforms ahead of the next general election.
According to him, Nigeriaâs major problem is not the absence of resources but systemic mismanagement and corruption that have pushed millions of citizens into hardship. He stressed that the country must urgently transition from a consumption-based economy to a production-driven model capable of creating jobs, boosting industrial growth, and improving living standards.
Obi stated that over 140 million Nigerians are living in multidimensional poverty, while millions of young people remain unemployed or underemployed. He argued that empowering local industries, supporting agriculture, and encouraging manufacturing are critical steps toward economic recovery.
The former Anambra governor also dismissed fears that the 2027 elections would be manipulated, insisting that Nigerians would have the opportunity to choose their leaders through a transparent democratic process. He urged citizens not to lose hope in the electoral system, saying credible leadership remains possible through active participation and accountability.
Obi further defended his political decisions and alliance with like-minded politicians, noting that his choices have always been guided by principles and national interest rather than personal ambition. Political observers believe his latest remarks are part of ongoing efforts by opposition figures to strengthen their positions ahead of the 2027 presidential race.
