Iran Responds To U.S. Ceasefire Proposal, Trump Rejects Terms As ‘Unacceptable’

Iran has formally responded to the latest ceasefire proposal presented by the United States, using Pakistani mediators to deliver its position, while calling for negotiations aimed at permanently ending the ongoing conflict across the region.

According to Iranian state television, Tehran is seeking an end to hostilities on all fronts, including the conflict in Lebanon, where Israeli forces continue military operations against the Iranian-backed Hezbollah militant group.

Iran also stressed the need to guarantee the security of international shipping routes, particularly in the strategically important Strait of Hormuz, a vital channel for global oil supplies and trade.

The latest proposal from Washington reportedly focused on ending the war, reopening the Strait of Hormuz, and scaling back Iran’s nuclear programme as part of a broader regional peace arrangement.

However, U.S. President Donald Trump swiftly dismissed Iran’s response, describing it as “totally unacceptable!” in a strongly worded reaction, though he did not provide further details on what aspects of the proposal were rejected.

The rejection raises fresh uncertainty over diplomatic efforts to de-escalate tensions in the Middle East, where conflicts involving Israel, Iran, and allied militant groups continue to fuel instability.

Observers say the outcome of any future negotiations could significantly affect regional security, global energy markets, and international diplomatic relations.

As diplomatic channels remain active, attention is now focused on whether both sides can return to negotiations and find common ground to prevent further escalation.
