Pre-Primary Screening Crisis: APC Panels Disqualify Over 150 Aspirants, Tension Rises Nationwide

Tension has gripped the All Progressives Congress (APC) following the disqualification of more than 150 aspirants during ongoing pre-primary screening exercises across various states. The screening panels, constituted to review candidates’ eligibility ahead of party primaries, reportedly knocked out several contenders over issues ranging from incomplete documentation, alleged non-compliance with party guidelines, to questions surrounding nomination fees and zoning arrangements.

Party insiders say the scale of disqualification has triggered anxiety among aspirants and their supporters, with some describing the process as “too strict” while others insist it is necessary to maintain discipline and credibility within the party’s selection process ahead of the 2027 general elections.

In some states, protests were reported shortly after results were released, with aggrieved aspirants demanding transparency and review of the screening outcomes. APC leadership, however, maintains that the exercise is fair and aimed at ensuring only qualified and loyal members emerge for the primaries.

Security has been tightened around party secretariats in affected states as the situation remains tense. Analysts warn that the wave of disqualifications could reshape political alignments within the party if not carefully managed.
