Ekiti 2026: APM Candidate Withdraws, Endorses Oyebanji

The governorship candidate of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) in Ekiti State, Joseph Anifowose, has stepped down from the 2026 governorship race and declared support for Governor Biodun Oyebanji ahead of the June election.

Anifowose announced his withdrawal during an APC campaign rally held in Igede Ekiti, saying his decision was influenced by the developmental projects and leadership style of the Oyebanji administration. He praised the governor for fostering unity among political leaders and driving infrastructure and governance reforms across the state.

According to the former APM candidate, the progress recorded under Oyebanji’s administration convinced him that continuity was necessary for the growth of Ekiti State. He also disclosed that APM leaders across the state had been directed to support Oyebanji’s re-election bid in the forthcoming poll.

Speaking at the rally, APC leaders expressed confidence in securing victory in the June 2026 governorship election. Senate Leader Opeyemi Bamidele and other party stakeholders said the ruling party remained determined to maintain political dominance in the state.

Political observers believe the endorsement could strengthen Oyebanji’s campaign as political alignments continue ahead of the election. However, opposition parties insist the contest remains open, with PDP candidate Wole Oluyede reaffirming his determination to challenge the APC administration.
