Presidential Fleet Operations Gulp N4.24bn in Six Months – Report
The cost of maintaining Nigeria’s presidential fleet has risen sharply, with new reports indicating that about ₦4.24 billion was spent within just six months on operations, fueling concerns over rising governance overheads.
According to the report, the expenditure covers aircraft maintenance, aviation fuel, crew logistics, insurance, and routine servicing of presidential air assets. Analysts note that the fleet, which supports presidential and high-level government travel, remains one of the most expensive components of Nigeria’s security and executive logistics structure.
The figure has triggered renewed debate among fiscal policy experts and civil society organisations, many of whom argue that the cost is unsustainable given Nigeria’s current economic challenges, debt profile, and calls for reduced government spending.
Government sources maintain that the presidential fleet is essential for national security, diplomatic engagements, and rapid mobility for the Commander-in-Chief. However, critics insist that greater transparency and possible restructuring of the fleet operations could help reduce costs.
The report adds to ongoing scrutiny of government expenditure, with many Nigerians calling for accountability and efficiency in public resource management.
