Cubana Chief Priest Loses APC Reps Ticket Bid in Imo

Popular Nigerian businessman and entertainer, Cubana Chief Priest, has lost his bid to secure the All Progressives Congress (APC) ticket for the House of Representatives seat representing Orsu/Orlu/Oru East Federal Constituency in Imo State ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Cubana Chief Priest, whose real name is Pascal Okechukwu, contested in the APC primary election but was defeated by incumbent lawmaker Canice Moore Nwachukwu, who currently represents the constituency in the Green Chamber. Reports indicated that Nwachukwu secured victory during the party’s primary exercise conducted across the constituency.

The celebrity barman and nightlife entrepreneur had in recent months intensified his political activities within the APC, openly supporting President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and serving as Imo State coordinator of the City Boy Movement, a youth-driven support group for Tinubu’s political agenda. His political ambition generated significant reactions on social media, with supporters praising his courage to venture into politics while critics questioned his preparedness for the highly competitive political landscape.

Following the outcome of the primary election, reactions flooded online platforms, with many Nigerians debating the increasing involvement of celebrities in active politics. Some political observers described the defeat as a major learning curve for the socialite, while others commended him for participating in the democratic process despite the setback.

The APC primaries in Imo State reportedly produced a mix of returning lawmakers and new candidates across several federal constituencies, reflecting ongoing political realignments ahead of the 2027 elections.
