NEWS REPORT: President Bola Tinubu has condemned the killing of an abducted teacher in Oyo State, describing the incident as a heartbreaking reminder of the persistent security challenges affecting parts of the country.
The teacher was reportedly abducted under yet-to-be-clarified circumstances and later killed by his captors despite ongoing efforts by security agencies and local stakeholders to secure his safe release.
In his reaction, President Tinubu described the act as “deeply disturbing, cruel, and unacceptable,” extending condolences to the victim’s family and the people of Oyo State.
He assured Nigerians that his administration is intensifying efforts to strengthen national security architecture and improve rapid response mechanisms across the country.
The President also renewed calls for the establishment of state police, stating that decentralizing policing would enhance intelligence gathering, improve community engagement, and ensure quicker response to security threats.
According to him, the current centralized policing structure is overstretched and requires urgent reform to effectively address kidnapping, banditry, and other violent crimes.
Security experts have consistently argued that state police could significantly improve local surveillance and reduce response time in rural and hard-to-reach communities.
The incident has sparked renewed national debate on safety in schools, with stakeholders calling for stronger protection measures for teachers, students, and education workers across the country.
Authorities are expected to continue deliberations on broader security reforms in upcoming national security council meetings.
