Nigeria–US Joint Forces Eliminate 20 ISWAP Fighters in Coordinated Northeast Operations
Joint military forces from Nigeria and the United States have reportedly eliminated 20 fighters belonging to ISWAP during a coordinated counterterrorism operation in Nigeria’s North-East region.
Security sources indicate that the joint operation targeted insurgent hideouts believed to be used for planning attacks on civilian communities and military formations around the Lake Chad axis. Precision air support and ground assaults were reportedly combined to achieve the outcome, with intelligence-led surveillance playing a key role.
Authorities say the operation is part of ongoing efforts to degrade the operational capacity of terrorist groups operating in the region, including remnants of Boko Haram factions that have pledged allegiance to ISWAP. Military officials described the mission as “successful,” noting that no civilian casualties were recorded.
The Nigerian military reaffirmed its commitment to sustained counter-insurgency campaigns alongside international partners, while emphasizing improved intelligence sharing and rapid response capabilities.
Further assessments are ongoing to determine the full impact of the operation on insurgent networks in the region.
