Stop Kidnappings, Protect Our Children Now — NLC Tells Federal Government

The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has called on the Federal Government to take urgent and decisive action to stop the rising wave of kidnappings across the country, especially those targeting schoolchildren and vulnerable communities.

In a strongly worded statement issued in Abuja, the labour body expressed deep concern over the continued insecurity, noting that the abduction of pupils in different parts of the country has created fear among parents and disrupted education in many states.

The NLC urged security agencies to intensify intelligence operations, improve rapid response mechanisms, and ensure that abductors are tracked down and prosecuted without delay. It also warned that failure to secure schools and communities could further undermine national stability and economic productivity.

According to the union, the protection of children is a fundamental responsibility of government, adding that no nation can develop when its future leaders are constantly exposed to danger.

The congress also called for increased investment in community policing, surveillance infrastructure, and welfare support for security personnel working in high-risk areas.

Reaffirming its solidarity with affected families, the NLC demanded immediate rescue efforts for any abducted students still in captivity and stressed that silence or slow response from authorities is unacceptable.

The labour body concluded by urging the Federal Government to treat the insecurity crisis as a national emergency requiring coordinated and sustained action across all security institutions.
