DHQ Dismisses Terrorist Base Claims in South-West, Intensifies Search for Abducted Oyo Pupils

The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has dismissed recent reports alleging the presence of terrorist camps in Nigeria’s South-West region, describing the claims as unfounded and capable of causing unnecessary panic among residents.

In a statement issued by military authorities, the DHQ clarified that ongoing intelligence and surveillance operations across the South-West have not uncovered any established terrorist base. It stressed that security agencies remain fully in control of the region and are actively responding to emerging threats through coordinated joint operations involving the military, police, and intelligence services.

The clarification comes amid rising public concern over insecurity and circulating rumours suggesting that armed groups had established hideouts within forested areas in parts of the region. The DHQ urged citizens to disregard unverified reports and rely only on official security communications.

Meanwhile, the military confirmed that search-and-rescue operations have been intensified for pupils abducted in Oyo State. Security forces are reportedly combing identified forest corridors and border communities believed to be possible routes used by the kidnappers.

Authorities assured that all necessary resources have been deployed to ensure the safe rescue of the abducted schoolchildren. The DHQ also appealed for public cooperation, urging residents to provide credible information that could assist ongoing operations.

Security experts say the dual focus on countering misinformation and strengthening rescue efforts reflects growing concerns over kidnapping incidents in parts of the South-West.
