The Anambra State Government has officially approved the annual Awka Festival while placing a ban on masquerades carrying dangerous weapons during the celebration, as part of efforts to ensure public safety and maintain order.
According to state authorities, the decision is aimed at preserving the cultural significance of the festival while preventing violence, intimidation, and injuries often linked to the use of harmful objects by masqueraders.
Government officials stated that masquerades participating in the event must strictly comply with safety regulations.
