Trump, Iran Near Deal on Reopening Strait of Hormuz

Former U.S. President Donald Trump has claimed that Washington and Tehran are close to finalizing a major agreement that could reopen the strategic Strait of Hormuz and ease months of tensions in the Middle East. Reports indicate that negotiations are centered on a ceasefire framework, restoration of commercial shipping routes, and renewed discussions over Iran’s nuclear programme.

According to international media reports, the proposed deal could include a temporary 60-day truce, partial sanctions relief for Iran, and the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz — a vital global oil shipping route that has remained disrupted during the conflict. Trump stated that the agreement is “largely negotiated,” although Iranian officials have reportedly pushed back on some claims and insist that several issues remain unresolved.

The Strait of Hormuz is one of the world’s most important energy corridors, with nearly one-fifth of global oil shipments passing through it. The prolonged crisis has driven oil prices higher and raised fears of wider economic instability across global markets. Analysts say reopening the waterway could help stabilize energy supplies and reduce pressure on international fuel prices.

Sources familiar with the talks say Iran may agree in principle to limit parts of its enriched uranium programme in exchange for economic concessions and the easing of U.S. naval restrictions. However, Trump also stressed that the U.S. blockade would remain in place until a final and certified agreement is officially signed.
