Eid-el-Kabir: FG Declares Wednesday, Thursday Public Holidays
The Federal Government of Nigeria has declared Wednesday and Thursday as public holidays to mark the 2026 Eid-el-Kabir celebration. The announcement was made by the Minister of Interior, who congratulated Muslims across the country and urged citizens to embrace peace, sacrifice, unity, and love during the festive period.
The government also called on Nigerians to use the occasion to pray for national stability, economic growth, and security. Security agencies have been directed to ensure adequate safety measures across the country as millions of Muslim faithful travel and celebrate with their families.
Eid-el-Kabir, also known as the Festival of Sacrifice, is one of the most important Islamic celebrations observed worldwide. The celebration commemorates the willingness of Prophet Ibrahim to sacrifice his son in obedience to Allahâs command.
Markets, transport hubs, and major cities are expected to witness increased commercial activities ahead of the celebrations, with travelers moving to different parts of the country for the holiday festivities.
