Additional 180 Nigerians Return From Libya Under IOM Repatriation Programme
A total of 180 Nigerian migrants have safely returned from Libya under the Assisted Voluntary Return and Reintegration (AVRR) programme coordinated by the International Organization for Migration (IOM).
The returnees arrived in Nigeria through a chartered flight facilitated by the IOM in collaboration with relevant Nigerian authorities. The group consisted of men, women, and children who had faced difficult living conditions while stranded in Libya.
According to officials, the repatriation exercise is part of ongoing efforts to assist vulnerable migrants wishing to return home voluntarily. Upon arrival, the returnees underwent necessary documentation, profiling, and reintegration support processes to help them rebuild their lives in Nigeria.
The Nigerian government has continued to work closely with international partners to address irregular migration and provide support for citizens returning from transit countries across North Africa.
Authorities have also urged Nigerians seeking opportunities abroad to use legal migration channels and avoid dangerous routes that expose migrants to exploitation, human trafficking, and other risks.
The IOM's Assisted Voluntary Return and Reintegration programme remains a key initiative aimed at helping stranded migrants return safely and reintegrate into their communities.
