Ex-GCEO Kyari: I Have Nothing to Hide as EFCC Probes Refinery Spending
ABUJA — Former Group Chief Executive Officer (GCEO) of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), Mele Kolo Kyari, is under investigation by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over the funding of refinery repair projects.
Kyari was invited to the EFCC headquarters in Abuja on Thursday to answer questions regarding the financing of turnaround maintenance works on the nation’s refineries.
As of 8:30 p.m. last night, he had not been released by investigators, sparking speculation about whether he had been detained or was still undergoing interrogation.
Speaking before entering the EFCC premises, Kyari insisted he had nothing to hide, maintaining that all actions taken under his leadership at NNPCL were in the interest of the country.
The probe into refinery rehabilitation has been a subject of public scrutiny, with billions of naira reportedly spent on projects that have yet to deliver functional results.
