Nigeria TV Info â The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has apprehended an Indian businessman, Gupta Ravi Kumar, along with three Nigerians, over the interception of 2.2 million tramadol pills worth N3.99 billion at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA), Lagos.
NDLEA spokesman, Femi Babafemi, confirmed in a statement on Sunday that the illicit consignment, disguised as multivitamins, was shipped from Delhi, India, in 114 cartons aboard an Ethiopian Airlines flight that landed last Monday.
He explained that NDLEA operatives had placed the cargo under surveillance before intercepting a clearing agent and two drivers who attempted to move the drugs in two trucks on Thursday. A follow-up operation on Friday led to the arrest of Gupta, when he showed up to claim the shipment.
In a separate operation at the Lagos airport, NDLEA officers also intercepted 900 grammes of cannabis hidden in crayfish inside the luggage of a passenger, Onyeganochi Ifeanyi, who was headed to Doha via Qatar Airways. His confession led to the arrest of an accomplice, Ohadiegwu Uchenna, and the recovery of additional drugs from his hotel room.
