Nigeria TV Info – Washington and Beijing Reach TikTok Framework Deal as Trade Negotiations Progress

Washington and Beijing have reached a tentative “framework” agreement on TikTok’s US operations, US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent confirmed on Monday following talks in Madrid. He stated that President Donald Trump and Chinese leader Xi Jinping are expected to “finalize” the deal on Friday, bringing the dispute into the broader scope of ongoing trade negotiations.

Trump announced on Truth Social that discussions had “gone very well,” while Beijing also acknowledged the framework but emphasized that no deal would compromise the interests of Chinese firms. The development comes just days before Wednesday’s deadline for TikTok’s parent company, ByteDance, to divest its US operations or risk a nationwide ban.

Reports indicate Oracle is among potential partners that could secure TikTok’s future in the US if the deal is completed. The ownership of TikTok has become a central bargaining tool in US-China trade talks, which previously saw tariffs rise to as high as 145%. Officials say the framework is designed to safeguard US national security, though it still requires the final approval of both Trump and Xi.

Despite progress, concerns remain about whether TikTok’s algorithm and American user data will be fully protected under any new ownership. Analysts caution that unresolved issues could leave vulnerabilities in place even if control shifts to a US partner.
