S/East Govs Pushing for Nnamdi Kanu’s Release — Otti
Umuahia, Nigeria — Abia State Governor Alex Otti has revealed that governors of the South East are currently engaging in discussions with the Federal Government regarding the possible release of the detained IPOB leader, Nnamdi Kanu.
Speaking at his monthly media interaction on Thursday, Otti said that while the information and assurances involved are “not for public consumption,” he is “in the forefront” of efforts to ensure Kanu’s return. He noted that the South East governors are also involved in behind-the-scenes efforts.
Otti added that beyond the Kanu issue, his administration remains committed to enhancing security across Abia, especially as the year enters its final months. He pledged ongoing support to security agencies, including the police, army, and DSS.
He also highlighted the rising risks associated with the “ember months,” urging citizens to remain vigilant and to share information with authorities.
On other fronts, Otti addressed youth involvement in vandalism of school infrastructure, announcing plans to recruit four security staff per school in Abia State to protect school property.
He further disclosed that President Bola Tinubu is expected to visit Abia State next Friday to commission several road projects, including in Aba, and to flag off the reconstruction of the Umuahia–Ikot Ekpene federal route.
Regarding protests from host communities over land compensation tied to the Abia Airport project, Otti admitted that lapses had occurred and assured that the government was rectifying the issues. He said some genuine landowners’ names were omitted, some documentation was incomplete, and contractor errors had led to wrong land takeovers — all of which are being addressed.
