Customs Seize N1.9bn Hard Drugs, Expired Flour at Seme Border

Detailed News:
The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has intercepted hard drugs and expired flour worth over N1.9 billion at the Seme border in Lagos State. The operation, led by the Seme Area Command, followed credible intelligence that led to the seizure of the contraband concealed in trucks and warehouses near the border.

According to the Customs Area Controller, Comptroller Timi Bomodi, the confiscated items included large quantities of Tramadol, codeine syrup, and other psychotropic substances, alongside expired flour intended for resale in local markets. Bomodi stated that the action aligns with the Federal Government’s directive to strengthen border surveillance and protect public health.

He added that five suspects have been arrested in connection with the seizures and are currently undergoing investigation. Bomodi reiterated the Service’s commitment to fighting smuggling and safeguarding the nation’s borders against illicit trade.

The seized goods have been handed over to the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) and the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) for further examination and disposal.

Authorities reaffirmed that such operations would continue, warning smugglers to desist or face the full weight of the law.
