Abuja, Nigeria — Scores of Nigerians poured into the streets of Abuja and several cities across the country on Friday to protest the surging cost of living and worsening poverty, demanding urgent government action to address what they described as “social and institutional poverty.”

The protest, tagged a “Call to Action”, was held simultaneously in Lagos, Yola, Yobe, Nasarawa, and other states, reflecting widespread discontent with the current economic realities.

In Abuja, the peaceful demonstration began at the Labour House, where protesters, carrying placards with bold messages, marched through major streets to the Federal Ministry of Finance before returning to their starting point.

Speaking during the protest, organisers said their movement represents the voice of millions of Nigerians who continue to struggle under the weight of economic hardship, food inflation, and declining living standards.

They emphasised that despite increased government revenues, there has been no corresponding improvement in the lives of ordinary citizens, urging authorities to ensure that economic policies translate into tangible relief for the poor.

> “More money is flowing into government coffers, but Nigerians are getting poorer,” one of the protesters lamented. “There must be a transformation in the lives of over 100 million citizens living in abject poverty.”

The protesters vowed to sustain their peaceful demonstrations until meaningful action is taken to tackle hunger, unemployment, and systemic inequality in the country.
