Rome, Italy — Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Senator Abubakar Kyari, has called for sustained collaboration and partnership with the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) to drive agricultural productivity, job creation, and sustainable development in Nigeria.

Speaking during a bilateral meeting with FAO Director General, Dr. QU Dongyu, on the sidelines of the 2025 World Food Forum (WFF) in Rome, Senator Kyari said enhanced partnership with FAO would help Nigeria achieve food and nutrition security.

According to him, the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security is committed to working closely with FAO to expand irrigation systems across the country, improve water management, and build resilience among smallholder farmers, thereby promoting all-year-round food production.

Kyari also underscored the importance of advancing agricultural mechanisation to enhance productivity, efficiency, and value addition in rural farming communities.

He further noted that FAO’s technical support remains vital in the establishment of a comprehensive national farmers’ database, which would strengthen policy planning, resource allocation, and programme monitoring for the sector.

The minister reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to implementing policies that align with FAO’s strategic priorities, aimed at achieving zero hunger and sustainable agricultural transformation.
