Tension in Oworonshoki as Lagos Task Force Resumes Demolition Exercise
Tension has gripped residents of Oworonshoki in Lagos State as the Lagos State Environmental and Special Offences Enforcement Unit, popularly known as the Task Force, resumed demolition of illegal structures in the area. The operation, which began early Saturday morning, targeted makeshift houses, kiosks, and extensions allegedly built on drainage channels and road setbacks.
Many residents were seen hurriedly salvaging their belongings as bulldozers pulled down affected buildings. The Task Force officials said the exercise was part of the state governmentâs ongoing efforts to restore environmental order and reclaim public spaces.
Some residents, however, accused the government of not giving sufficient notice, lamenting that they had nowhere to go. Meanwhile, security operatives were stationed across major streets to prevent any breakdown of law and order.
Officials reiterated that the demolition would continue until all illegal structures obstructing free flow of traffic and waterways were removed.
