Nigeria TV Info – Anambra Police Commissioner Reaffirms Neutrality Ahead of Governorship Election

Awka, Nigeria (October 26, 2025) – The Commissioner of Police in Anambra State, Mr. Ikioye Orutugu, has stated that the Police Command has no interest in who emerges victorious in the forthcoming governorship election scheduled for November 8, 2025.

Speaking during his visit to Aguata and Otuocha Area Commands, Orutugu emphasized that the primary concern of the Police is to ensure security and maintain peace before, during, and after the polls.

According to a statement issued by the spokesman of the Anambra State Police Command, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the visit formed part of ongoing security engagements aimed at strengthening coordination and readiness ahead of the election.

Quoting the Police Commissioner, Ikenga said:

> “The Nigeria Police Force remains a strictly neutral and non-partisan institution. The Police are not interested in who wins or loses the election, but are firmly committed to ensuring that the electoral process is peaceful, credible, secure, and free of violence before, during, and after the polls.”

Orutugu also charged Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers (DPOs), Tactical Commanders, and other operational teams to uphold professionalism, discipline, courtesy, and firmness as political activities heat up across the state.

He further stressed that all officers must remain apolitical and adhere strictly to the Electoral Act, the Police Code of Conduct, and Standard Operational Procedures.
