Nigeria TV Info – Atiku Warns of “Creeping Dictatorship” Under Tinubu Administration
Abuja, Nigeria (October 27, 2025) – Former Vice President and 2023 Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, has sharply criticized the administration of President Bola Tinubu, warning that the government is on a steady path toward full-blown dictatorship.
In an article titled “A Nation Gripped in the Throes of Fear”, Atiku accused the Tinubu government of systematically attempting to silence dissenting voices, describing the trend as a dangerous erosion of Nigeria’s democratic principles.
Highlighting what he called the “obnoxious” Cyberstalking Act, Atiku said that numerous Nigerians have been jailed under the law. He further condemned the administration for responding to public discontent with “brute force and intimidation,” treating peaceful dissent as treason and turning protesters into prisoners.
“There is a disturbing yet growing pattern by which the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu continues to muzzle free speech and, in so doing, erode the integrity of the democratic ethos that define our nation,” Atiku wrote.
He added, “It is a development that should trouble every Nigerian, for if this creeping culture of repression continues unchecked, it will ultimately turn the federal government into a bully — and make subjects of free citizens. The roll call of Nigerians currently on trial or languishing in detention facilities across the country is far too long to recount.”
Atiku also warned that under the Cyberstalking Act, the government has “metamorphosed into a leviathan — one that thrives on fear and seeks to silence the very voices that sustain democracy,” calling the situation “an aberration, an affront to freedom, and it must be roundly rejected.”
The former vice president’s comments come amid increasing concerns from local and international human rights organizations about the state of civil liberties in Nigeria.
