Residents Accuse Oyo Government of Land Grabbing, Threaten Mass Protest Over Ibadan Circular Road Expansion

Residents of communities along the Ibadan Circular Road corridor in Oyo State have accused the state government of land grabbing, forceful displacement, and deliberate oppression under the guise of expanding the ongoing Circular Road project.

The affected residents, drawn from six local government areas — Akinyele, Ona Ara, Ido, Lagelu, Oluyole, and Egbeda — expressed their grievances on Thursday during a press conference held at the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Press Centre, Iyaganku, Ibadan.

In a communiquĂ© issued by Prince Adeniyi Fasoye (Convener) and Isiaq Jimoh (Secretary), and read by Mr. Olutayo Oladosu, the group alleged that government officials have secretly marked out an additional 850 metres of land across several communities, far beyond the original boundary of the project. They described the action as “reckless abuse of power”.
