Troops Arrest Suspected Kidnap Kingpin in Major Breakthrough for Operation Zafin Wuta
Troops of the 6 Brigade, Nigerian Army/Sector 3 Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS) have recorded another major success in the ongoing Operation Zafin Wuta with the arrest of a suspected kidnapping kingpin in Southern Taraba.
The suspect, Alhaji Abubakar Bawa, was apprehended on 23 November 2025 while attempting to flee Wukari Local Government Area. His arrest comes just one day after the capture of Umar Musa, another notorious kidnapping mastermind believed to be terrorising communities in the region.
Preliminary investigations by the Army indicate that both Bawa and Musa are connected to a wider criminal syndicate responsible for multiple kidnappings, violent attacks, and coordinated criminal activities across Southern Taraba.
In an official statement, the Acting Assistant Director of Army Public Relations, 6 Brigade, Lieutenant Umar Muhammad, confirmed the latest arrest and emphasised that it forms part of ongoing efforts to dismantle criminal networks threatening peace in the area.
Commander of 6 Brigade/Sector 3 OPWS, Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, praised the troops for their professionalism and operational efficiency. He described the arrest of Bawa as âa clear indication that Operation Zafin Wuta is achieving its objective of dismantling criminal syndicates and restoring security to affected communities.â
General Uwa reaffirmed the Brigadeâs commitment to sustained aggressive clearance operations, stressing that no criminal element will be allowed to escape justice as long as current operations maintain their momentum.
