Russia Launches Fresh Overnight Strikes on Kremenchuk Hours After Zelensky Holds âConstructiveâ Talks With Trump Envoys
Russia intensified its overnight assault on Ukraine early Sunday, launching a series of powerful strikes on the central industrial city of Kremenchuk, only hours after President Volodymyr Zelensky described discussions with former U.S. President Donald Trumpâs negotiating team as âvery constructive.â
City Hit by âMassive Combined Strikeâ â Mayor
In a video message posted online, Kremenchuk Mayor Vitaliy Maletsky confirmed that the city had come under a âmassive combined strike,â repeatedly targeting critical infrastructure.
The attacks left parts of the city without water, heating, and electricity, disrupting essential services at a time when winter temperatures continue to fall. Emergency crews were deployed across affected districts to restore basic utilities.
As of Sunday morning, no casualties had been confirmed, though officials warned that assessments were still ongoing.
Escalation Despite Renewed U.S.âUkraine Diplomacy
The strikes came just hours after President Volodymyr Zelensky revealed that he had held a âvery constructiveâ call with Trumpâs envoy Steve Witkoff and Trumpâs son-in-law Jared Kushner.
The diplomatic engagement followed three days of peace negotiations in Miami, where U.S. intermediaries and Ukrainian officials discussed a possible framework aimed at ending the nearly three-year-long conflict.
Zelensky said the talks focused on security guarantees, territorial integrity, and long-term peace mechanisms, adding that Kyiv remains open to any initiative that respects Ukraineâs sovereignty.
Tensions Rise as War Enters New Phase
Despite diplomatic overtures, Russiaâs intensified attacks highlight the fragile and volatile nature of the conflict, raising questions about Moscowâs intentions amid talk of renewed negotiations.
Ukraineâs military command reported heightened drone and missile activity across multiple regions, warning that Russia may be escalating pressure ahead of any formal peace proposal.
The international community continues to monitor developments closely, as expectations grow regarding Washingtonâs potential role in brokering an agreement acceptable to both sides.
