US Military Shoots Down Iranian Drone Near Aircraft Carrier In Arabian Sea
WASHINGTON / MIDDLE EAST â The United States military has confirmed that it shot down an Iranian drone after it âaggressively approachedâ an American aircraft carrier operating in the Arabian Sea.
U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) said the unmanned aerial vehicle was destroyed on Tuesday by an F-35C stealth fighter jet launched from the USS Abraham Lincoln. The U.S. military described the action as self-defence, taken to protect the aircraft carrier and its crew.
At the time of the incident, the USS Abraham Lincoln was operating in international waters approximately 500 miles from Iranâs coastline. Officials said the droneâs intent was unclear, but it continued moving toward the carrier despite monitoring and precautionary measures.
CENTCOM confirmed that no U.S. personnel were injured and no equipment was damaged during the encounter.
The incident comes amid ongoing tensions between Washington and Tehran, with military forces from both sides operating in the wider Middle East region. Despite security concerns, U.S. officials say diplomatic engagements involving Iran are still ongoing.
The USS Abraham Lincoln is part of a U.S. carrier strike group deployed to maintain regional security and maritime stability in the Middle East.
Nigeria TV Info understands that the event highlights continued security risks in strategic waters such as the Arabian Sea, where global military and commercial interests frequently intersect.
