How Peter Obi And I Escaped Attack In Edo — Olumide Akpata
Former presidential candidate, Peter Obi, and Edo governorship hopeful, Olumide Akpata, have narrated how they narrowly escaped an attack during a political engagement in Edo State.
Akpata disclosed that the incident occurred shortly after both leaders concluded a meeting with supporters in parts of the state. According to him, suspected political thugs stormed the venue, creating panic and forcing security operatives to swiftly evacuate them from the scene.
He explained that the quick intervention of security personnel and loyal supporters prevented what could have escalated into a violent confrontation. Vehicles in the convoy were reportedly damaged, while several attendees sustained minor injuries in the confusion.
Peter Obi, while reacting to the development, condemned the rising wave of political intolerance and called on security agencies to investigate the incident thoroughly. He stressed that democracy must be protected and that no Nigerian should face threats for participating in lawful political activities.
Akpata further urged supporters to remain calm and law-abiding, insisting that intimidation would not deter their commitment to democratic engagement in Edo State.
The incident has sparked reactions among political stakeholders, with calls for peaceful campaigns ahead of upcoming electoral activities in the state.
