Zamfara: Security Forces Foil Planned Bandit Reprisal After Killing of Ado Aliero’s Son, 65 Others

Nigeria TV Info — State security forces have uncovered a planned large-scale reprisal attack by armed bandits targeting communities in Zamfara State, following recent military operations that led to the killing of a son of notorious bandit leader Ado Aliero and at least 65 other fighters.
According to security sources, the planned retaliation was in response to sustained offensives carried out by Nigerian troops alongside hybrid security units under Operation Fansan Yamma. The intensified campaign has significantly weakened bandit networks operating in the region.
Major Blow to Bandit Network
The coordinated operations targeted known bandit hideouts in Tsafe Local Government Area and surrounding forest corridors. These areas have long served as strongholds for criminal groups involved in kidnapping, cattle rustling, and deadly raids.
Security officials confirmed that several high-profile commanders linked to Ado Aliero were neutralised during the offensive. Among those killed was Kachalla Iliya Sarki, identified as Aliero’s son, alongside other key operatives responsible for coordinating attacks across Zamfara and neighbouring states.
Also reportedly eliminated were senior figures including Dogo Sule and Iliya Mai Rasha, both known for leading violent operations in Tsafe, Maru, and nearby communities.
Retaliation Plot Uncovered
Intelligence gathered after the operation revealed that surviving members of the group had begun mobilising for a coordinated reprisal attack. The plot, now foiled by security forces, was said to target vulnerable rural communities as a show of strength following the heavy losses.
Authorities say proactive intelligence and surveillance efforts helped prevent what could have escalated into another wave of violence in the already volatile region.
Security Gains and Ongoing Threat
The elimination of top commanders is believed to have disrupted the operational structure of the bandit network, significantly weakening its command and control capabilities. However, security experts warn that remnants of the group may still pose a threat if not completely dismantled.
Residents in affected areas have been urged to remain vigilant and cooperate with security agencies by reporting suspicious movements.
Renewed Commitment to Stability
The Nigerian military has reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining pressure on criminal elements across Zamfara and the wider North-West region. Ongoing operations under Operation Fansan Yamma are expected to continue targeting remaining enclaves to restore peace and security.
