Bandits Attack Kwara Community, Abduct Several Residents in Midnight Raid

Bandits launched a violent overnight attack on Igbonla community in the Irepodun Local Government Area of Kwara State, abducting several residents during a coordinated operation late on Sunday, November 2, 2025.

According to a community source who spoke under anonymity for security reasons, the armed men stormed the community around midnight, shooting repeatedly into the air to instill panic and force residents out of their homes before whisking away multiple people into the surrounding forest.

“The attack happened on Sunday night. We don’t yet know the exact number of people kidnapped, but several residents were taken away,” the source told Nigeria TV Info.

The incident has thrown residents into fear and confusion, with some families fleeing to neighbouring villages in search of safety. Many homes in the community were reportedly deserted as of Monday morning.

Security agencies, including operatives of the Nigerian Police Force and local vigilante groups, have since been deployed to the area to conduct search operations aimed at rescuing the abducted persons and tracking down the attackers.

However, neither the Kwara State Police Command nor the state government has issued an official statement regarding the abduction at the time of filing this report.

The attack adds to the growing wave of insecurity in Kwara South, where cases of kidnapping and armed banditry have been on a steady rise, particularly in remote and agrarian communities.
