Iran Strike Fallout: Shi’ite Protests Erupt in Northern Regions

Tensions across parts of the Muslim world intensified after recent United States–Israeli airstrikes on Iran reportedly killed Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ali Khamenei. The development has triggered widespread outrage among Shi’ite communities, sparking protests and demonstrations in several northern regions across Asia and beyond.

In northern areas of Pakistan and other regions with strong Shi’ite populations, thousands of protesters took to the streets to condemn the strikes and express solidarity with Iran. Demonstrators carried images of Khamenei, chanted anti-U.S. and anti-Israel slogans, and demanded international accountability for the attack.

The unrest turned violent in some places. In the Pakistani city of Karachi, protesters attempted to storm the U.S. consulate, leading to clashes with security forces. Authorities responded with tear gas and gunfire as crowds tried to breach security barriers, resulting in multiple casualties and injuries.

Demonstrations also spread to northern territories such as Gilgit‑Baltistan, where government buildings and international offices were targeted during protests. Security forces have since increased patrols and imposed restrictions on public gatherings in several cities to prevent further escalation.

Shi’ite groups worldwide have organized solidarity marches and mourning ceremonies, describing Khamenei as a major religious and political figure in the Islamic world. Meanwhile, authorities in affected countries are urging calm while reinforcing security around diplomatic missions and strategic installations.

Analysts warn that the fallout from the strikes could deepen sectarian tensions and trigger further demonstrations across regions where pro-Iranian sentiments remain strong.
